Stapelia grandiflora another pretty common stap but one that never fails to put out some nice flowers, this one started as a single stem cutting last year and is now putting out it's second round of fuzzy starfish this year.

Smells never too bad with this clone Andy but it might not be same for every plant of grandifora and of course if the sun is warming the flowers and making the nectar flow makes a difference too.

Worst/strongist smells for me from Stapelia have been from two of the small flowered species S. olivacea and S. similis, also Stapelia kwebensis is said to be very noticable for it's size saddly the one i had from seed a few years back went tit's up on me.

aye some plants dont always have a strong smell, i think they can vary from plant to plant, i once had a stapelia sp and the flowers stunk horrendously, one year the flowers where pollinated by some bluebottles and the flowers where crawling with maggots hehehe ,

Nice flowers. Even the smell of S. gigantea isn't that bad. S. leendertziae has a real bad smell, we will see what happens next year when mine will hopefully flower.
