Hi
Just for a bit of Monkey fun I started this thread as I know quite a few of you get out and about I expect you could add a few monkey pics of your own. Just to start off here are a few of mine.
Please only add Photos that were taken in the wild!
Sorry in advance for some of the poor pics but a few are photos of photos which I don't have on disc, due to not haveing a computer or anything of the like at the time.
Pretty sure I might have some of the species wrong but they are mostly labeled as what I was told they are at the time.
So from the Kruger National Park in South Africa:-
Chacma baboon Papio ursinus

Vervet Monkey Chlorocebus pygerythrus

From the Amboseli National Park & Lake Nakuru National Park in Kenya

From Frasers Hill in Malaysia
Silver leaf Monkey Trachypithecus cristatus

Crested Black Macaque Macaca nigra

Spectral Tarsier Tarsius spectrum

From Bako National Park in Borneo
Long-tailed Macaque Macaca fascicularisuser posted image
Proboscis Monkey Nasalis larvatus

From Semenggoh Wildlife Centre in Borneo
Orangutan Pongo pygmaeus
user posted image
Ok so my last one is abit of a white lie as the adult Orangutan is one that has been reabilitated into the wild so is infact semi wild. That said the young one was born to this mother outside of captivity so is technically clased as being fully wild. A great success story for the Semenggoh Wildlife Centre. smile.gif

So come on don't be shy post up your pics. Ibet there are a few who have been to see the larger primates or some from the America etc.
All the best
Chris

I took a sneaky picture of these weirdo primates foraging for spiders earlier in the year.

I think they're called Homo sapiens, but not all of them were demonstrating the wisdom supposedly associated with this gregarious species wink.gif

Trust the exciting Mr Gallon to take a pic of the most boring ape species on the planet doing the most boring of things no less! rolleyes.gif
Please no more Homo sapien pics as they are dullest of the dull (If you don't take Mr Gallon into account of course wink.gif ).

BTW I deleted that pic above this post because I really was aiming for a Monkey/ape type thread and not just a complation of completely crap photoshop pics.
cheers

These are all (poor) scans of old transparencies and are in any case the rejects from my employer at the time (who retained ownership/copyright of the good uns) so are not brilliant to start with. Anyway, here’s one species that not many people have seen, the Bonobo or Pygmy Chimpanzee (Pan paniscus). These photos were taken in August 1988 at Wamba (Zone de Djolu) in central Zaire (or Democratic Republic of the Congo). If you know nothing about the sex-life of Bonobos have a Google and enlighten yourself – it’s all true; sex is the pre-eminent form of social communication regardless of age or gender!

The next photo is of a young female Western Lowland Gorilla (Gorilla gorilla gorilla) photographed in December 1990 in the Nouabale-Ndoki Forest (Region de la Sangha) in northern Congo (or Republic of the Congo). This was a chance encounter; the groups here were not habituated but were encountered from a distance on an almost daily basis. Myself and two guides had been tracking one group which were seemingly all around us but the vegetation was too dense to know exactly what was going on, the noise behind me I assumed was one of the guides and it wasn’t until I turned around that there was this little girl munching on a fruit barely 5 metres away!

The main threat to gorillas is, as ever, habitat loss but hunting for the ‘bush meat’ trade is a close second. A by-product of this is providing ‘body bits’ for witchcraft. This photo shows a ‘juju’ stall in the market in Ouesso with a gorilla hand in the middle, elephant’s tail in the foreground and various other bits and pieces.

user posted image

The other by-product of the bush meat trade is orphan babies, which are taken to Brazaville where they are sold as pets to both domestic and international markets. The last photo shows lunchtime at John Aspinall’s gorilla orphanage in Brazaville where all confiscated gorilla orphans ended up. At the time I was there, there was a new arrival about once a week. The vast majority never survived more than a month, dying of shock, injuries or GI infections.
