I think we should go that extra mile and refer to everything as Theraphosid .sp "wherever it was found"
![]() BTW: Chris iirc CF is a taxa of uncertain ID in someway (a situation which could be due to many things that I can't be arsed to list here). -------------------- Only ever been banned from two Forums so far (But Tescos is still in the lead)

Hi ;-)
The "G" stands for "Genus", but is only making sense when following a definition of subfamily and followed by the abbrevation "sp." (for "species") indicating that the specimen has been identified as a species belonging in a known subfamily, but which has not been possible to determine to genus nor species - like for instance the example of Ornithotoninae G. sp "something". the use of "cf" is sometimes interpreted as meaning colorform, but is actually an abbrevation of the word "confer", which in taxonomic terminology has the meaning "to be compared with or comparable with" indicating that the assumption is that the species at hand confers to a known species - but also that the identification is only that - an assumption - or a tentative guess. I know its only humble, but here's a few pics of my Ornithoctonae collection (please don't comment on the camera work, I know its terrible)
First my H.lividium ![]() ![]() And a male ![]() An Ornithoctonus ![]() And a male H. schmidti ![]() Thats it I'm afraid, but I've got another Haplopelma arriving tomorrow (yes I've joined the minax collectors!) and my O. sp. Koh Samui surfaced for pics the other day, which are being developed (Viscious little thing it is!) All the best -------------------- My Collection:
